Jim Thorpe was born on an Indian reservation in
Oklahoma in 1888. He had remarkable athletic
ability in many sports. When he played football,
trying to catch him was like trying to catch a
shadow. At the 1912 Olympic games, he won both
the decathlon and the pentathlon. After the
Olympics he played professional baseball and
football. In 1950, The associated Press named
hithe greatest football player and all-around
male athlete of the first half of the twentieth
century.
