- Junior Graduate Studentship
- 15 months or less of graduate experience
- Senior Graduate Studentship
- 15 months or more of graduate experience
- Applicants with more than 56 months of graduate
experience are not eligible to apply

- Applicants submit an Abbreviated CCV
- Abbreviated CCV attachments now include only
publications and patents - All attachments to the Canadian Common CV and
MSFHR ApplyNet must be PDF files - Applications in progress can be viewed by the
Supervisor(s) in read only format

- All first time users (Applicants and their
Supervisors) must create a system account

15Connect CCV to MSFHR ApplyNet
- One time connection between CCV and ApplyNet is
required - Confirm my agency PINs

- Be sure to type your first and last name exactly
as you did in ApplyNet

- Complete and submit the mandatory Letter of
Intent and CCV-MSFHR Abbreviated Version - Wait for LOI Approval (up to 5 business days)
- Communicate with Supervisor(s)
- Review Supervisor Instructions PDF
- Review Sample Supervisor Form
- Create an ApplyNet Account
- Complete a Supervisor Form and a CCV- MSFHR Full

- Complete and submit your Full Application and
CCV-MSFHR Abbreviated Version - If changes have been made since your LOI
submission, you will need to re-submit your CCV - Review your Full Application with your
Supervisor(s) prior to submission - Once your Full Application has been submitted,
there can be no changes

- Once youve validated your Supervisor(s) System
Account Email, they may begin completing their
Supervisor Form - Once youve submitted your Full Application, your
Supervisor(s) can then submit their Form to the
Host Institution

- Host Institution approves your Application
Package and submits to MSFHR - MSFHR will send you a confirmation email once the
Full Application has been received - Reference Letters and Transcripts to be sent
directly to MSFHR by July 2, 2009

24The Evaluation Process
- Evaluation committees, made up of
scientific/academic experts from BC Universities
and Institutions, rate and rank applications - The reviewers use set evaluation criteria and
weightings when reviewing your application - Each application is reviewed by a primary and
secondary reviewer and receives a score out of
4.9 - Feedback to applicant is given

- Is the project relevant?
- Has a reasonable hypothesis/research question
been generated? - Are the ideas put forth original/innovative?
- Are the descriptors used clear (e.g. hypothesis,
methodologies)? - Is the project feasible, given the resources and
support available to the researcher?

- Has the Supervisor made significant
contributions to research? - Does the Supervisor offer a challenging
environment? - Will the candidate have exposure to other
Trainees? - How well is the Supervisor funded? Does he/she
have consistent peer reviewed funding? - Has the Supervisor received honours and awards?

- What is the intensity of the program?
- What level of grades were obtained?
- Is there a trend in the Applicants grades?
- Has the Applicant received any academic prizes or

their support of the Applicant? - Do the letters provide enough information to

spelling mistakes, conflicting tenses - Keep it simple and avoid jargon the application
should be a pleasure to read
