Revision
God the Father
Jesus Christ
Holy Spirit
Godly relationship
3
1 John 3 1-3 - What shall we be ?
  • The wonder of it stops John in his tracks
  • Look at what the Father has given us!!! We are
called the Children of God and we are !!!
  • This is not something which will happen in the
future but WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF GOD HERE ON
    EARTH NOW !!!
  • This should be an incentive for us to ask the
Holy Spirit to help us to become more like Jesus
here on earth, so that The will be done, (here
on earth) as it is already being done in heaven
  • The world does not understand us, or acknowledge
who we are, because they dont know or recognise
Jesus Christ, or the Father which is in Him.
  • In verse 3 John refers to a vision of Jesus (God
Himself in his glory) When He appears we shall
be like Him, for we shall see Him as He really
    is.

4
1 John 34
  • The necessity for right conduct
  • False teachers considered that Knowledge was
all-important and that conduct did not matter.
  • John insists that SIN is evidence of a wrong
    relationship with God.
  • Greek construction for the word Sin
    Lawlessness can be interchanged
  • 266. hamartia, ham-ar'-tee'-ah from G264 sin
    (prop. abstr.)--offence, sin (-ful)
  • 458. anomia, an-om-ee'-ah from G459 illegality,
i.e. violation of law or (gen.)
wickedness--iniquity, X transgress (-ion of) the
    law, unrighteousness.

5
1 John 35-7
  • Christ and sin are incompatible
  • Christ came to take away sins which indicates
complete hostility to evil. Remember in Him
there is no sin at all.
  • This should have a corresponding effect in
Christian disciples - for no-one who abides in
    Him sins.
  • The life a man lives reveals the source from
    which he draws his life.
  • To have other ideas or thoughts is to be
deceived. John makes it plain He who does right
    is righteous
  • The standard is Christ as He is righteous

6
I John 38-10 Children of the devil.
  • In verse 8 John shows that other side of the
coin. He who commits sin is of the devil.
  • If you are Born of God there is a supernatural
regeneration happening in your life these
    people cannot habitually sin.
  • Whether we love our brothers and/or sisters is
the test of whether we belong to Christ or
    belong to the devil.

7
1 John 3 11-18 Love one another
  • John re-iterates that LOVE is the first
    commandment (right from the beginning)
  • Cain was evil and killed his brother why ?
Because he could not stand to see a righteous
life continue - compared to his own evil life.
  • John makes the comparison
  • If you love your brother you have eternal life
  • If you hate your brother you are a murderer and
no murderer has eternal life in him you are
    doomed to eternal damnation.
  • The good news is that you can repent of your sin
and make yourself right with God.

8
1 John 19-24 Confident re-assurance
  • Having laid out his argument for good and evil,
John re-assure us that we belong to God (if we
love Him and keep His commandments)
  • We are of the truth, therefore the truth must
always be inside us and be shown in our thoughts
    and actions.
  • We have this confidence of salvation and eternal
life because it is Gods promise to us through
    His word.
  • In conclusion, LOVE is the cornerstone to the
Christian walk and is to be emphasised through
teaching and actions in the Body of Christ.
  • Satan is defeated by our testimony of love.
