9Allowable Accommodations
- Oral Administration OA bubble must be bubbled
under accommodations all forms for this test
administration are the same. - Only examinees served by special education or
Section 504 my receive an oral administration of
TAKS - Please make sure to account for the TAs test
booklet (return with test booklets, NOT with
voids)
10Nonallowable Accommodations
- Scratch paper and calculators may NOT be used for
the test - Test items may NOT be translated
- Test questions and answer choices may NOT be
clarified or rephrased - Foreign-language reference materials may NOT be
used - Other accommodations that would invalidate the
test are prohibited

- At least one TA for every 30 students.
- Bulletin boards, etc., that contain instructional
material that may aide students on the test must
be covered or removed. - Clock does NOT have to be covered.
- A Testing Do Not Disturb sign must be posted
outside the testing room. - Doors to testing rooms must remain unlocked and
windows must be uncovered.

- Cell phones and other electronic devices are NOT
allowed in the testing environment. - TAs must read the cell phone policy to students
before testing begins each day, and students must
sign the cell phone sign-in sheet to verify they
are aware of the policy. - Any student caught with such a device during
testing will automatically receive a score code
of O for their test. - Students must be monitored by a trained staff
member during ALL individual and/or group breaks
to ensure that they do NOT discuss the contents
of the test.

- All answers must be marked on an answer document
with a No. 2 pencil. Answers marked in a
nonscorable test booklet will NOT be scored. - Test administrators are NOT allowed to require
students to first mark their answers in the test
booklet and then transfer them to the answer
document. - Students MAY use highlighters in nonscorable test
booklets (Grades 4 and up). - Students must remain seated during testing and
are NOT allowed to talk to one another while
testing is taking place.

- Districts are NOT required to test beyond the
regular school hours, but may do so if they
choose to. Check with your campus administrators
to determine how long your testing day will run,
then notify students, parents teachers
regarding the time regulations. - Tests are untimed, so each student must be
allowed to have as much time as necessary within
the testing time set by the campus. - If students need to be moved to an overflow room
fill out a transfer of test material form to
show a chain of custody of the secure material. - Students are NOT allowed to carry their own test
material to the new location.

- Each student MUST be allowed to work at his or
her individual speed. Students may NOT be
directed to speed up or slow down. - Campuses/TAs are NOT allowed to set a time as to
when tests will begin to be collected (i.e., we
will not collect any tests for two hours or
until 1030 a.m.). - Some students may finish earlier than others.
After test material has been collected, they may
be allowed to read a book or leave the testing
room.

- Reinforcing, reviewing for, and/or distributing
testing strategies during an assessment is
strictly prohibited. Providing this type of
assistance to students can results in the
invalidation of their tests. - TAs must ACTIVELY monitor the testing
room/process while students are working. They
must ensure that students - do NOT bubble demographic information on the
answer documents. - do NOT have access to nonallowable material, cell
phones, or other electronic devices. - TAs should periodically remind students to bubble
their answers on the answer document.

- Before a student leaves the room, the test
administrator MUST inspect the completed answer
document to be sure the student has bubbled in
answers as instructed. - They are checking for completeness, (to verify
that responses are marked), NOT for specific
questions that were skipped or for specific
answers that students selected. - If a student has not bubbled in answers the TA
must say, You have not recorded all of your
answers on the answer document. Please go back
and mark your answers on it now. - Students are NOT allowed to return to a
subject-area test attempted on a previous test
day or to work on a subject-area test that has
not yet been administered.

- A student who has arrived after testing has begun
MAY be tested if sufficient time remains in the
day and IF the student has not had contact with
students who have already completed testing. - Only students are allowed to erase stray marks or
darken answer-choices on answer documents. - After the student has finished testing and left
the testing location, he or she will NOT be
allowed to make any changes to the answer
document.

- All personnel must be trained and sign an oath
before handling secure material. - All tests must be administered in strict
accordance with the instructions contained in the
test administrator manuals (including reading the
directions to students verbatim) DO NOT ADD
ANYTHING TO THE DIRECTIONS BEFORE STUDENTS BEGIN
TESTING. - All tests are considered secure until released to
the public. - No secure test material may be duplicated in any
manner. - No person may view, reveal, or discuss the
contents of a secure assessment instrument or
answer verbally or nonverbally any question that
relates to the contents of a test before, during,
or after a test administration unless
specifically instructed to do so by the
instructions in the TA manuals.

- No person may view or discuss student responses
during or after a test administration unless
specifically instructed to do so by the
procedures outlined in the TA manuals. - No person may change a response or instruct a
student to do so. - Release or disclosure of confidential test items
could results in criminal prosecution under
Section 552.352 of the Texas Government Code and
Section 37.10 of the Texas Penal Code. - In accordance with 19 TAC 101.65(e), any person
who violates, assists in the violation of, or
solicits another to violate or assist in the
violation of test security or confidentiality,
and any person who fails to report such
violation, may be penalized by sanctions or
revocation of their teaching certificate. - Additionally, irregularities in test security or
confidentiality may result in the invalidation of
student results.

passing standard, regardless of whether the
student tested. - TAKS-M is not offered for retests.
- Grade 5 fill in the E for English or S for

the TEST TAKEN INFO field. - If the student takes TAKS-Accommodated, fill in
the E or S under the M in the TAKS ACCOMM.

participated in the TAKS-Alt assessment. - Note A student cannot be classified as
LEP-exempt if he or she took the TAKS Gr. 5 or 8
Math test in April.
