Radioactivity as a Noise Source

• Potassium not only responsible for OM-noiserate
• Cant explain noise rate of Schott
  hemisphere/higher than Benthos hemisphere with
  little K
• Cherenkov-Light from ß-decays from other elements
  contributes as well (in glass Emin 566 keV)
• Those elements (U, Th?) enter the glass by
  diffusion from the wall or are contained in
  quartz sand.
• If and how do ?s lead to noise? (Pair production
  possible?)
• Mechanism of noise rate- genesis not yet well
  understood
