• Bilbo is riding on Doris shoulders when he is
  grabbed from behind. He rolls off Doris
  shoulders, bumps his head, and is lost in the
  blackness.

• Gollum is a small, slimy creature who lives
  deep in the caves of Moria beneath Misty
  Mountains where he broods his precious, a magic
  ring.

• 3. After he does not guess the last riddle, why
  does Gollum go back to his island?
• Gollum goes back to his island to get the ring
  of invisibility. He plans to put it on and come
  back and eat Bilbo.

• 4. How do the Goblins and Wargs trap the party
  in the forest?
• The goblins and Wargs surround the dwarves,
  Gandalf, and Bilbo forcing them to climb into the
  tree tops.

• 5. Why does the Lord of the Eagles save them?
• Gandalf had once rendered a service to the
  eagles and healed their lord from an arrow wound.

• 6. Why must the dwarves enter Beorns house in
  pairs, five minutes apart?
• Beorn does not like company. Gandalf is going
  to spread out how often the dwarves arrive to
  correspond with his story about their adventures.
  The story distracts Beorn from counting how many
  dwarves there actually are.

• Beorn is a creature capable of changing form
  between man and bear and who helps Bilbo and the
  dwarves after their escape from the goblins.

• They cannot go around Mirkwood because it is 200
  miles out of the way to the north, and twice that
  to the south. There are also no safe trails in
  the wild.
