us to the draw in the development of the atomic

4J.(Julius) Robert Oppenheimer
- Was born on April 22, 1904
- He went to school for a few years. He was known
to be very smart at languages including Greek,
Latin, French, German - Graduated from Harvard University
- Lived in Germany for a little while after college
until he quit - He became involved in the project of making an
Atomic Bomb in Oct. 1941 - Became scientific director of the Manhattan
Project in 1943 - He became one of the head people in the project,
and immediately started understanding all of the
concepts on how to make the bomb. - Oppenheimer became a part of the target comity,
and helped to decide where the bomb could be
used, and most effective. - He wanted to use the bomb on Japan, but others
disagreed - Finally on July 16, 1945 the atomic bomb was
presented - 1904 - 1967
5Two questions for Julius
- 1) What were your intentions on what would be
done with the bomb, after the project was
completed? - 2) Because of the fact that you helped to make
the atomic bomb, did it ever occur to you the
lives that would be lost, should this bomb ever
be used, and how did that influence you on the
project
63 WORDS
- 1) Ruthless-In order to come up with such a
plan something that would have such an affect on
peoples lives, a person must be ruthless. - 2) Brilliant
- - To be able to think up of such a plan, one
that has never been thought of before, a plan
that could win so much as a World War, a person
would have to be brilliant. - 3) Leader
- - To take up such a role, and become head of
such a big project, a person must have leadership
7DAY AFTER DAY
- While making the project I suspect that a lot
of time was needed. Early mornings, meetings
throughout the day, and discussion on how to make
the MANHATTEN PROJECT work. Drawings of the bombs
were made, and because of the fact that
Oppenheimer played such a role in developing the
bomb, he had to check up on other people to make
sure that they were holding up their end. - While building the actual bomb, Oppenheimer
would probably keep a close watch on all parts of
the construction, making sure everything went a
smoothly as possible.

Manhattan Project

12PROJECT
- The project lasted 4 years, between 1942 - 1946
- These bombs were made during WW2, and was
considered to be a "The Manhattan Project was a
scientific breakthrough, a frantic race for life
and death, and a revolution in warfare."
(http//www.me.utexas.edu/uer/manhattan/ ) - Because of the fact that America had an Atomic
Bomb, other countries where scared of us. This
also influenced Japan to surrender in WW2, after
their attack on Pearl Harbor.
13VIDEOS
- These videos were shot during the time of the
bombings - http//www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/bomb/sfeature/foxhole

14RESULTS OF BOMBS
- DAMAGE REPORT Leveled Area 6.7 million square
meters Damaged Houses 18,409 Casualties
Killed------73,884 Injured-----74,909
Total------148,793 (Large numbers of people
died in the following years from the effects of
radioactive poisoning.)
15MORE RESULTS OF BOMBS
- "The explosion was equivalent to about 20,000
tons of TNT. - Done later in Hiroshima Nagasaki
16MAIN ACCOMPLISHMENTS CONTRIBUTIONS
- The creation of the first atomic bomb
- A. Leader of the Manhattan Project
- Basically helping to settle and end WW2
17REGRETS
- My guess would be that Oppenhiemers main regrets
would be the affect that the bomb had on the
future of the world. The bombs power led to
nuclear warfare, and the attempt at world
domination by other countries
