  • Why are standards important in EU?
  • Increase compliance, safety, quality, customer
    assurance
  • Products or services intended for sale in Britain
or EU require compliance to the New Approach
    Directives (law).
  • Compliance is assumed if a product is designed to
    the harmonized standard (EN prefix).
  • Trade more effectively in EU markets if products
    meet the relevant requirements

  • Why are British Standards important?
  • All BSs are the official English version of
harmonized standards (European ENs) and therefore
provides the most accurate and original version
of necessary standards for compliance to the New
    Approach Directives

  • Why use standards for research work?
  • Most academic institutions have three issues

  • 2) Time resource dilemma
  • 3) Institution reputation
