offerings providing rigorous academics and high
tech education in the context of
In keeping with Perkins IV, programs are
increasingly required to offer 1) national
certification and/or 2) college credit.
3
Who/what is studied in this report?
  • The study focuses on 7,514 students, in two key
    sub-groups
  • Project Lead The Way (PLTW) students 729
students with a passing grade on record in a PLTW
    course in 2006-07.
  • Non-CTE students 6,785 students who did NOT
earn CTE credit from 2004 to 2007, but had 1)
cumulative credit, 2) attendance and 3) at least
45 membership days with MPS in 2006-07.

NOTE The PLTW study is part of the overall Career
Technical Education evaluation of 13,156
students. The PLTW study focuses on 729 students
who completed PLTW classes (5.5 of total) vs.
6,785 students who never participated in Career
Tech classes (51.6 of total). See main study for
results involving 5,642 Career Tech students who
did NOT participate in PLTW in 2006-07 (42.9 of
total).
4
Demographics PLTW Students vs. All Students
PLTW students are diverse, but the district is
engaged in continuing efforts to increase access
for girls through the High Tech Girls Society.
The district also works to assure access for
special education students through accommodations
and customized courses.

MPS College Readiness Goals Measures
2006-07 is the initial year of the MPS-CTE-PLTW
college readiness study. The college readiness
study will be refined as the strategic plan
evaluation systems develop.
  • 80 of students will be proficient in math and
    reading.
  • Measure MN Comprehensive Assessment II - 10th
    gr reading, 11th gr math
  • 80 of students will reach college entrance exam
thresholds. Measure Until all students take the
ACT or other college readiness measure, baseline
performance is estimated using standard scores
set by ACT for the PLAN (pre-ACT) test. The PLAN
is taken by all 10th graders.
  • Reduce the race and income achievement gaps by
    75.
  • Measure disaggregation of performance data
allows analysis of changes in income and race
    achievement gaps.
