Line types on working drawings
The purpose of orthographic drawings is to show a
3D object in 2D that gives accurate measurements
and information. The idea is that anyone could
use the drawings to make the object just as the
designer intended. Follow the rules and its easy!
5
3rd Angle orthographic drawings THE RULES.
  • The front elevation is the view with the most
information, not necessarily the front of the
object e.g. if you were drawing a car it would be
the side of the car but still be called a front
    elevation.
  • You only need to include views if they contain
new information, three is often enough. You can
include five views if you wish.
  • There must be even spacing between all of the
    views.
  • You must include the symbol on the page, you
could also include the cutting list on this page.
  • 3rd Angle means - each view has turn 3 x 90
degrees outwards from the front elevation.
  • Dimensions must be included on the drawing in
    millimetres.
  • They should be written along and above the line
    with the arrows.
  • The arrows should have solid heads.
  • The projection lines must be light
  • You do not have to include the whole design on
one drawing, parts of the product could be
explained through a set of drawing and then an
assembly (or exploded drawing) could be used.

Be patient, GOOD LUCK!
