IT IS USED

• to say what would or could happen. You generally
  need the conditional if you want to say phrases
  like I would or Id or would you or
  could you.
• where there is some doubt about an action, or
  some other condition is involved (Id like to go
  out tomorrow/I would finish quickly if you helped
  me).
• to make polite requests (Could you open the
  window?/Id like some water).

IT IS FORMED

• by adding the endings of the imperfect tense
  (ais, ais, ait, ions, iez, aient) to the
  infinitive (for re verbs take the e off first).

IRREGULAR VERBS

• They still use the same endings but they use a
  different stem instead of their infinitive.
• Avoir (to have) ? aur
• Être (to be) ? ser
• Aller (to go) ? ir
• Devoir (to have to)? devr
• Faire (to do/to make)? fer
• Pouvoir (to be able to)? pourr
• Savoir (to know something)? saur
• Venir (to come)? viendr
