Title: OBSERVATION
1OBSERVATION
2OBSERVATION
- Using senses measurements to learn about
something
3- Use DETAILS to make a good observation
4Large, small, tiny, many, and few are not good
adjectives to use. They can be misinterpreted!
5The best way to use size in an observation is to
measure.
This is called a quantitative observation
6Think of QUANTITIES or numbers used to count
7The standard system for measurement is the metric
system.
8The term metric means measurement
9Linear Measurement
Measuring along a straight line using a ruler
10The standard linear measurement is the meter.
11Metric Ruler Units
12Each small division is a millimeter (mm)
13Every ten millimeters 1 centimeter (cm)
14Therefore, each little line (mm) is also 1/10 or
0.1 of a centimeter.
15The term CENTI means 1/100 or 0.01
16Therefore, a centimeter is one hundredth (1/100)
or 0.01 of a meter.
17How would you record the following measurement?
18This measurement would be 1.8 cm.
19You must always use the UNITS of how you
measured!! Meters (m), centimeters (cm), or
millimeter (mm).
20During any type of experiment, the DATA (or
information) you collect is only as good as how
you observed and recorded it. Make GOOD
OBSERVATIONS!
