4Procession of the Species Parade
In celebration of Earth Day and the coming of
spring, Corvallis holds a Procession of the
Species Parade. This is an event where citizens
of Corvallis come together to walk downtown
wearing masks and costumes of animals in
celebration of endangered species and the
environment.
Our group joined the Corvallis Youth Volunteer
Corps to set up the parade booth, hand out and
collect masks of various animals, deliver
awareness flyers, and return supplies to the
Public Works headquarters.
5Soap Creek Water Shed
Invasive species and plants are non-native
species that are introduced into an environment.
Such species could potentially disrupt natural
habitat, dominating a community and may result in
exclusion of native species.
Our group went to the Soap Creek Water shed and
removed the invasive Russian thistles. By
removing invasive species, we can protect native
plants and prevent future damage and degradation.
