. POULTRY FARMING.

• poultry farming is the term given to the practice
  of keeping and breeding chicken, hen and other
  domesticated fowls like ducks, geese and turkey.
• selection of breed is very important aspect of
  poultry farming because the success and failure
  of the industry is,to a great extent, dependent
  on it.
• the selection of breed can be for egg production
  or for table purposes or for the dual purposes of
  obtaining egg and flesh.

. BREEDING .

• Breeding is one of the most important aspects of
  poultry farming especially for commercial
  purposes.
• The selection of the bird for breeding should be
  done with a proper aim and breeds of desirable
  characteristics and qualities should be used.
• only healthy birds are considered for the purpose
  of breeding.

• There are two principal methods of bird keeping
  used in India. They are the semi -intensive
  method and intensive method.
• Semi intensive method
• This system is practiced in villages. Here the
  birds are kept in an open yard , surrounded by
  wire nets in the day and confined to a house
  during the night.

  practiced in urban areas , where there is need
  for keeping a large number of birds for
  commercial purposes.
• Here the birds are kept either in a confined
  room or under a shed

FOOD AND FEEDING

• Food constitutes an important aspect of the
  poultry farming. the essential nutrients for
  poultry feed are water, carbohydrates, fat
  vitamin, calcium, phosphorus, and manganese. The
  poultry feed is all mash-diet which is prepared
  by combining all the ingredients in definite
  proportion to make it a balance diet

DISEASES AND THEIR CONTROL

• Most often, poultry farming gets a set back due
  to wide spread of diseases and attack by
  predators. Large number of Indian birds are being
  destroyed predator animals.Eg. Cats, dogs, foxes,
  mongoose etc.
• Some of the common diseases found in Indian fowls
  are tick fever or spirochaetosis
  ,tuberculosis,fowlcholera, fowlpox, rickets etc.

• Diseases can be controlled by vaccination,
  isolation of the affected ones, improving the
  sanitary conditions,removing dampness and
  exposure to sunlight.
