Prevention Of Heat Illnesses
  • Hydration (cooler fluids)
  • Drinks with 8 sugar or less (colas have 10-12)
  • Electrolyte replacement drinks
  • Acclimatize

Hypothermia
  • The body loses the ability to produce heat
  • Core body temperature of 95 degrees or less
  • Can occur when temps are above freezing
  • Causes of hypothermia may include
  • Air temperature
  • Dampness
  • Wind
  • Fatigue

Physical Symptoms of Hypothermia
  • Change in mental status
  • Abdomen cold to touch
  • Shivering

  • Rest

  • R - REST rest the injured site
  • I - ICE apply ice immediately after injury
  • 20 - 30 minutes on, 30-45 min. off
  • Apply for the first 72 hours
