The Need of Endurance
  • (Heb 1036 NKJV) For you have need of endurance,
so that after you have done the will of God, you
    may receive the promise

5
  • Jesus spoke of the alternatives to endurance.

6
In the parables of the soils.
  •  (Mat 133-9 NKJV) Then He spoke many things to
them in parables, saying "Behold, a sower went
out to sow. 4 "And as he sowed, some seed fell
by the wayside and the birds came and devoured
them. 5 "Some fell on stony places, where they
did not have much earth and they immediately
sprang up because they had no depth of earth.

7
In the parables of the soils.
  •  (Mat 133-9 NKJV) 6 "But when the sun was up
they were scorched, and because they had no root
they withered away. 7 "And some fell among
thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them.
8 "But others fell on good ground and yielded a
crop some a hundredfold, some sixty, some
thirty. 9 "He who has ears to hear, let him
    hear!"

8
Some never accept the word, and as a result are
never saved, and do not have to endure.
  • (Mat 134 NKJV) "And as he sowed, some seed
fell by the wayside and the birds came and
    devoured them.

9
Some began the Christian life, but did not have
the endurance to stay with it.
  • (Mat 135-6 NKJV) "Some fell on stony places,
where they did not have much earth and they
immediately sprang up because they had no depth
of earth. 6 "But when the sun was up they were
scorched, and because they had no root they
    withered away.

10
The cares of this world choked the word
  • (Mat 137 NKJV) "And some fell among thorns, and
the thorns sprang up and choked them.

11
Other seed fell on good ground and yielded a
good crop.
  •  (Mat 138 NKJV) "But others fell on good ground
and yielded a crop some a hundredfold, some
    sixty, some thirty.

12
The challenge is to be able to endure.
  •  (Heb 1032-36 NKJV) But recall the former days
in which, after you were illuminated, you endured
a great struggle with sufferings 33 partly
while you were made a spectacle both by
reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you
became companions of those who were so treated
34 for you had compassion on me in my chains,
and joyfully accepted the plundering of your
    goods,

13
The challenge is to be able to endure.
  •  (Heb 1032-36 NKJV) knowing that you have a
better and an enduring possession for yourselves
in heaven. 35 Therefore do not cast away your
confidence, which has great reward. 36 For you
have need of endurance, so that after you have
done the will of God, you may receive the
    promise

14
  • How do we endure?

15
We need to look to Jesus.
  •  (Heb 121-3 NKJV) Therefore we also, since we
are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which
so easily ensnares us, and let us run with
endurance the race that is set before us, 2
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of
our faith, who for the joy that was set before
Him endured the cross, despising the shame,

16
We need to look to Jesus.
  •  (Heb 121-3 NKJV) and has sat down at the right
hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider Him
who endured such hostility from sinners against
Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in
    your souls.

17
The race is a marathon race.
  •  (Heb 121 NKJV) Therefore we also, since we are
surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let
us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so
easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance
the race that is set before us,
  •

18
What helped Jesus get through it all?
  • (Heb 122 NKJV) looking unto Jesus, the author
and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that
was set before Him endured the cross, despising
the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of
    the throne of God.

19
Serious problems are coming.
  • (Mark 137-8 NKJV) "But when you hear of wars
and rumors of wars, do not be troubled for such
things must happen, but the end is not yet. 8
"For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom
against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in
various places, and there will be famines and
troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows.

20
  • There is a price to pay if we are going to follow
    Jesus.

21
It begins with confessing our faith in Christ
  •  (Mat 1032-38 NKJV) "Therefore whoever
confesses Me before men, him I will also confess
before My Father who is in heaven. 33 "But
whoever denies Me before men, him I will also
deny before My Father who is in heaven.

22
Peace does not always come right now.
  •  (Mat 1034-37 NKJV) 34 "Do not think that I
came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to
bring peace but a sword. 35 "For I have come to
'set a man against his father, a daughter against
her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her
    mother-in-law' 36 "and 'a man's enemies will
be those of his own household.

23
Peace does not always come right now.
  •  (Mat 1034-37 NKJV) 37 "He who loves father or
mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he
who loves son or daughter more than Me is not
    worthy of Me.

24
Enduring to the end is part of the price we have
to pay.
  •  (Mat 1038 NKJV) "And he who does not take his
cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.

25
Conclusion
  • (Rev 31-5 NKJV) "And to the angel of the
Sardis write, 'These things says He who has the
seven Spirits of God church in and the seven
stars "I know your works, that you have a name
that you are alive, but you are dead. 2 "Be
watchful, and strengthen the things which remain,
that are ready to die, for I have not found your
    works perfect before God.

26
Conclusion
  • (Rev 31-5 NKJV) 3 "Remember therefore
how you have received and heard hold fast and
repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will
come upon you as a thief, and you will not know
what hour I will come upon you. 4 "You have a
few names even in Sardis who have not defiled
their garments and they shall walk with Me in
    white, for they are worthy.

27
Conclusion
  • (Rev 31-5 NKJV) 5 "He who overcomes
shall be clothed in white garments, and I will
not blot out his name from the Book of Life but
I will confess his name before My Father and
    before His angels.
