periodically - TSGs develop specifications and technical reports
to support these features - System Release dates parallel the TSG delivery
schedules for key features - How is a System Release documented?
- End-to-end features are bundled as Work Items
- Detailed descriptions of key Work Items,
including all publications - Why are System Releases useful?
- Helps coordinate work gap-analysis across
interfaces - How often are they published?
- Every 12 18 months

Support - Enhancements to the core network to support large
numbers of distributed radio access nodes
connected to the cdma2000 core network over
non-trusted All-IP networks. - Femto Security Framework
- Specifying the security architecture, methods and
procedures between femtocells and a Security
Gateway Function in the cdma2000 packet core
network, along with other system level security
aspects. - 1x and HRPD Base Station Minimum Performance
Specifications for Femotcells - Supplementing the femtocells to enable better
performance and to reduce complexity of the
development, deployment and operation of these
femtocells.
17System Release 6 Delivers
- Technology Interworking
- 3GPP2 cdma2000 (HRPD and 1xRTT) and 3GPP E-UTRAN
(LTE) Mobility Interworking and Inter-Technology
Handoff - Delivering service continuity solutions to
support mobility and handoff between 3GPP2
(1xRTT/HRPD) and 3GPP E-UTRAN (LTE). - Inter-Technology Handoff Support for HRPD-WiMAX
- Supporting seamless handoff while in an active
state, allowing dual-mode terminal devices to
transition with minimal or no disruption of
active services, as well as supporting
bi-directional tunnels between HRPD and WiMAX to
support active state handoff for packet service
continuity. - WLAN-cdma2000 1x Circuit-Switched Voice
Interworking - Including the support for the new scenario to
provide continuity of a 3GPP2 circuit-switched
voice service while switching network connections
between VoIP via WLAN and a circuit-based voice
call via the 3GPP2 system.
18System Release 6 Delivers
- New Radio Capabilities
- Enhancement of the cdma2000 1x System
- Significant increases in the system capacity,
especially for voice services, thereby improving
user experience. - Extended Cell High Rate Packet Data (xHRPD)
- Enhancements to the HRPD air interface to support
range extension for cells in deployments such as
satellite and rural settings. - Enhanced System Selection
- Improvements to the radio access for Over-the-Air
Service Provisioning (OTASP) by enhancing system
selection procedures wherein the Access Terminal
(AT) are able to autonomously select
sector/carriers, even those not advertised in
Neighbor Lists.
19System Release 6 Delivers
- New Core Network Capabilities
- Accounting at the HA/LMA in cdma2000 Systems
- Accounting on an IP Session basis at the Home
Agent (HA) for PMIPv4 and Local Mobility Agent
(LMA) for PMIPv6 modes of operation. Accounting
is the function within the cdma2000 network and
the associated billing system whereby information
related to a chargeable event is collected,
formatted, transferred and evaluated in order to
make it possible to determine resource usage for
which the subscriber may be billed. - Unstructured Supplementary Services Data (USSD)
- USSD offers a simple but broad category of mobile
data services, without use of Internet Protocol
on the MS, feasible on basic mobile devices with
limited multimedia and protocol support. There
are two modes of USSD (1) Man-Machine Interface
(MMI) mode, in which character strings are
generated by and/or displayed to the user (2)
Application mode, in which User Agent (UA) and a
network entity exchange data transparent to the
user. USSD is characterized by transmissions of
small amounts of data, not requiring a high data
rate (less than 1 kbps is typically sufficient,
though higher rates are permissible), allowing
Data Burst Message (DBM) as transport mechanism.
20System Release 7 Underway
- System-wide Enhancements for M2M Deployment
- Machine to Machine (M2M) Communication for
cdma2000 Network - M2M will include
- network architecture enhancements for large
numbers of M2M devices - M2M addressing and numbering schemes,
optimization of radio and network resource usage

MS and network initiated services - efficiency to optimize for small payload
transmission - M2M security issues, and optimizations for the
access and core networks (both packet and
circuit-switched) for device battery usage - M2M communication performance, signaling overhead
and system capacity - radio enhancements identified as cdma2000 1x Rev
F for M2M Enhancements
21System Release 7 Underway
- Energy Saving Improved Network Management
- Self-Organizing Networks (SON)
- Self-organizing networks improves the ability of
network elements to automatically communicate
information between themselves in order to allow
each element to configure itself relative to the
other elements in the network. With the goal of
saving time and minimizing human-based procedural
errors, this work includes both intra-CDMA and
inter-RAT (Radio Access Technologies) SON
communications. - Green Revised Energy Efficient Network (GREEN)
- Green Revised Energy Efficient Network supports
efficiencies across interfaces by focusing on
recent improvements to the design, delivery and
deployment of services and equipment in the
mobile network. GREEN will investigate
enhancements that can potentially reduce power
consumption, extend battery life, and better
match the available power in both network and
terminal equipment.
