3Figures of speech
Bless your heart - we don't mean bless only
the muscle that pumps your blood, we mean bless
"all that is you."
God bless the hands that prepared the food
God bless the whole person
I like your wheels I like your (whole) car
ISA 5512 For ye shall go out with joy, and be
led forth with peace the mountains and the
hills shall break forth before you into singing,
and all the trees of the field shall clap their
hands.
SYNECDOCHE " A whole
can put for the part. " A part may be put for
the whole. " Time might be put for part of a
time. " The singular can be put for the plural.
" And the plural can be put for the singular.
4COL 15 For the hope which is laid up for you in
heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of
the truth of the gospel 6 Which is come unto
you, as it is in all the world and bringeth
forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the
day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in
truth (all the world very far and wide) LUK
2138 And all the people came early in the
morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.
LUK 2344 And it was about the sixth hour, and
there was a darkness over all the earth until the
ninth hour. JOH 429 Come, see a man, which
told me all things that ever I did is not this
the Christ? GEN 84 And the ark rested in the
seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the
month, upon the mountains of Ararat. Q
Did the ark rest on one of the mountains of
Ararat, or did it rest on all of them at the same
time? GEN 217 (Sarah asked) "Who would have
said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children?
For I have borne him a son in his old age."
Q How many children did Sarah have? Only one
child. In certain contexts, however, one might
use a synecdoche and speak of one child (as did
Sarah) by using the word children.
5Ellipsis words left out Matthew 1118, "For
John came neither eating nor drinking." Being
human, John had to eat and drink. (John did not
socialize with others in dining.) Hyperbole
exaggeration 2 Samuel 123, "Saul and
Jonathanthey were swifter than eagles, they were
stronger than lions."
6EXO 4038 For the cloud of the LORD was upon the
tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night,
in the sight of all the house of Israel,
throughout all their journeys. sight is
ayin (eye), a word that is used either
literally or figuratively fig. as in saying "an
eye for an eye".
(Like the single verse of
Matt.2819,
it needs other Scriptures to throw light.)
Two other Hebrew words that denote SIGHT /
SIGHTING OR VIEWING WITH THE EYES are mar'eh
- view (the act of seeing) also an appearance
(the thing seen), whether (real) a shape (espec.
if handsome, comeliness often plur. the looks),
or (mental) a vision ra'ah - to see,
literally or figuratively. (in numerous
applications, direct and implied, trans.,
intrans. and causat.)
7Now look at these two verses GEN 29 And out
of the ground made the LORD God to grow every
tree that is pleasant to the sight (mar'eh), and
good for food the tree of life also in the midst
of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good
and evil. GEN 183 And said, My Lord, if now
I have found favour in thy sight (ra'ah), pass
not away, I pray thee, from thy servant Can
you see how the word in each is different and how
it is used?
8Another thing. Moses was the author of the book
and he wrote it as he remembered the events. He
included Aaron as if Aaron heard God's voice when
God spoke to Moses. Eg EXO 720 And Moses
and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded and he
lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were
in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the
sight of his servants and all the waters that
were in the river were turned to blood. EXO
121 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in
the land of Egypt saying,..... If Aaron and
Moses both heard the same words of God as God
spoke all those commandments, then God had two
prophets that He spoke to to do a work. But we
know that He only used ONE, not two. He chose
Moses and Aaron was Moses' spokesman. So, did
Aaron really hear God's voice?
(Note Compare the record of the experience of
those who were with Paul on the road to
Damascus when Christ appeared to him.) In the
NT, Paul included Silas and Timothy as APOSTLES
when he wrote 1st Thessalonians. See vv.11 and
26. Yet, we know that Timothy was an
Evangelist. (I use we when others are on
missionary trip with me.)
9Further points to consider how ayin (sight) is
used. LEV 1019 And Aaron said unto Moses,
Behold, this day have they offered their sin
offering and their burnt offering before the
LORD and such things have befallen me and if I
had eaten the sin offering to day, should it have
been accepted in the sight (ayin) of the LORD?
LEV 1019 And Aaron speaketh unto Moses, 'Lo,
to-day they have brought near their sin-offering
and their burnt-offering before Jehovah and
things like these meet me, yet I have eaten a
sin-offering to-day is it good in the eyes of
Jehovah?' (YLT version) The following event,
Moses performed, clearly could not be seen by ALL
THE 4-6 MILLION PEOPLE NUM 2025-27 Take
Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto
mount Hor And strip Aaron of his garments, and
put them upon Eleazar his son and Aaron shall be
gathered unto his people, and shall die there.
And Moses did as the LORD commanded and they
went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the
congregation. NUM 2719 And set him before
Eleazar the priest, and before all the
congregation and give him a charge in their
sight (ayin).
10Therefore, the verse in question (EXO 4038 in
the sight of all the house of Israel,) is
generalized, words written as a figure of speech.
Remember the Bible uses SYNECDOCHE. We have ALL
seen the glory (shekinah) of the Lord. We ALL
believe Branham's message. I mentioned a couple
of times in the past when I taught on the
Tabernacle of Moses that when it was set up,
the glory of the Lord (cloud) came into it.
Moses saw it. And no doubt there would be others
who also saw it. Like there were those who have
seen the pillar of fire during Bro. Branham's
ministry. In the film, after ministering the
healing grace of God, Bro. Branham, tired and
about to leave the platform, said "Mine, it's
real milky out there anything can happen." He
was referring to the pillar of cloud, and I
believe many people felt the presence of God very
strongly and perhaps, some might have even seen
the pillar of cloud. Likewise, some of the
people of Israel did see the fire and the cloud
but not ALL per se. Some interpreters Fire
to keep them warm at night. Cloud to shade them
from the heat of the sun. Others Prose,
ordinary language of the time.
