hours a Watch will be issued. This WATCH should
trigger your family's disaster plan, and
protective measures should be taken. Especially,
anything that requires extra time such as
securing a boat and leaving a barrier island.
4Hurricane Warning
If winds of 74 mph or higher expected in a
coastal area within the next 24 hours. When this
occurs evacuate from your home or be in a safe
place in the house.
5Before a Hurricane
Have disaster plan and a pet plan ready. Contact
veterinarian or local Humane Society and
preparing pets for an emergency. Have food,
water and a medical kit. Make sure that your
cars are filled with gasoline and have a weather
radio with you.
6During a Hurricane
- Keep calm and tell your family everything is ok .
Think twice before speaking or never take action
to be sure you do not make others nervous. - You should disconnect all electrical devices and
circuit breakers, turn off the gas and water,
keep away from doors and windows, and check the
level of water outside your house. Because
candles are a potential fire hazard, it is better
to use battery-powered flashlights. - Listen to your radio to get updated hurricane
information. Do not try to leave your house until
the officials have announced that the danger has
passed. Remember that the eye of the hurricane
creates a deceptive calm that can last up to an
hour, followed by another strong force of wind
blowing in the opposite direction.
7After a Hurricane
- Stay indoors until it is safe to come out.
- Check for trapped or injured people without
endangering yourself. - Watch out for flooding which can happen after a
hurricane. - Do not attempted to drive in flooded water
- Dont drink tap water until officials tell you to.
