• The NCAR MSSs SAN HIPPI Network
• So-called backend network
• Not an IP-based network
• Virtual-channel-switching
• MSS Group maintains the MSS HIPPI network
• Packet-based LANs/MANs/WANs
• So-called frontend networks
• Mostly IP
• Plus a tad of AppleTalk, DECnet, NetBIOS, etc.
• NETS maintains these networks

• Connect to SCD/UCAR Servers DNS, email, NFS,
  SAMBA, login, authentication, web, etc.
• Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, FDDI, and ATM
• To include 1000-Mbps in the future
