3Birch Bark Houses - Used by Gatherers
8 to 10 Feet Tall
These houses are known as Wigwams or wetus.
These were houses were used by Algonquian
Indians in the woodland regions
4Longhouse - Used by Gatherers
Some of the tribes along the northeast coast who
lived in longhouses were the Iroquois and the
Mohawk. Longhouses were built along the
northwest Coast by some less famous tribes. Two
of These tribes were the Makah and
Clatsop. Longhouses could be 200 feet long, 20
feet wide, and 20 feet high.
5Tepees- Used by Hunters
Made mainly of Buffalo skin.
6- Teepees were used by the tribes who lived on the
American Plains. - They were but with the purpose of being able to
set up and take down quickly. - The plains tribes could take down their tepees in
one hour. - These tribes followed their main source of food,
such as buffalo.
The Tribes who used Tepees were the Lakota,
Nakota and Dakota (Sioux), Pawnee, Arapaho,
Kiowa, Apache and Comanche.
7Grass House- Used by Gatherers
These prairie grass houses were built by tribes
like the Caddos. The Caddos tribe lived in the
southern plains. These houses were made for
warmer climates. The Caddos tribe still lives in
Texas today.
8Adobe or Pueblos Used by Gatherers
The Pueblo are natives of the Southwest deserts,
particularly New Mexico. (The Hopi live in
Arizona, while the Ysleta del Sur Tigua live in
Texas.) Unlike many Native American tribes, the
Pueblo Indians were never forced to leave their
homelands and are still living there today.

in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Crazy Horse
was a great warrior for the Lakota Sioux. The
Lakota Sioux live on the Pine Ridge Reservation
in South Dakota today.
