Principles of Sermon
  • 1. It must contribute to the worship of God.
  • 2. It must be Christ-centered.
  • 3. It must expound the Word to the collective
    life where the people are.
  • 4. It must be dependent upon the power of God.
  • 5. The preacher must be careful using humor or
    interesting stories so that they may not divert
    focus away from God.

  • 1. What does the text say? Historical-critical

  • 4. How can I express its meaning in everyday
    language? Relevant expression.

    expressed in language of the first person
    dignified enough for frequent use at public
    worship (Runia).

Announcement
  • 1. It is not part of worship.
  • 2. Timing is critical to prevent announcement
    from interrupting the worship service. Either
    before or after the service.
  • 3. It may be a good idea to use the time for
    people to greet one another or to welcome
    visitors.
