  • A book written by Harriet Beecher Stowe that
    described the evils of slavery and convinced many
    Northerners that slavery was wrong.

Dred Scott Case
  • Dred Scott argued in court that he should be free
    because he once lived in a free state. The court
    ruled against him and said that slaves were
    considered property.

John Browns Raid
  • John Brown was an abolitionist who led a violent
    rebellion against slavery and he was killed.

Summary
  • The North and South in the 1850s were divided
    over many issues including economics, politics,
    and slavery. These division were not resolved by
    compromise and eventually lead to the Civil War.
