  • After the 1800s there was a move towards enclosed
    fields with hedges or fences as boundaries.
  • Benefits of Enclosures
  • Animals couldnt wander off
  • More crops could be produced more profits
  • It was clear who owned which field and they had
    control of what was produced/reared on it
  • Owners could improve their own fields
  • More land was cultivated

Food prices high New inventions increased production Little foreign competition New breeds of animals were introduced Money was invested into farming to improve efficiency such as drainage systems Bad weather and harvests along with disease in cattle in sheep caused a depression Other countries caught up with Britain Britain no longer ahead of foreign competition After WW1 little government help for farmers.
