• (Expository)
• An expository composition provides
  information about a topic and your ideas about
  this information. For example, an expository
  composition may inform readers about the first
  calendars ever created and include the writers
  ideas about the civilization that invented them.

• Begin with a thesis statement that expresses the
  controlling idea of your composition.
• State this idea clearly and in an orderly
  fashion.
• Develop the body of the composition by including
  main ideas that back up the thesis.
• A good idea is to have one paragraph (per)
  to address each main idea.
• Provide details that support each main idea.
• This support is the evidence that backs up your
  claims.
• You may include information to back up your ideas
  from primary or secondary sources.
• A primary source includes first-hand
  information such as interviews or journal
  entries, and a secondary source provides
  second-hand information such as that found in
  research manuals or periodicals.
• Be clear and well organized!!
• Make sure that you choose an organizational
  pattern that suits your audience and purpose.
• End with a strong conclusion!
• This may summarize your main points or
  restate main idea.
