- Create a system driven by research and evaluation

classrooms due to inappropriate student placement - Students who got an F in ESL class are at
greater risk of being misplaced - Inappropriate ESL placement may result in poor

- Students in classrooms were High Point was fully
implemented were more likely to perform at the
Basic or higher levels - Inappropriate student placement seemed to be the
major cause of poor student performance - 40 of students who got an F in their class
have been misplaced into either too advanced or

trip) approved by the site administrator and

- Follow procedures as outlined in district
bulletin - Appeals are ultimately heard at the central level
with the chiefs of instruction - Review BUL-1926.0 for more specific information

- Impact of student employment on student
achievement and drop out and attendance rates - Principals are encouraged to employ student
workers - Incentive-based employment opportunities include

Elementary School for their successful
beautification day held on April 14th.
Approximately 150 parents, students and staff
volunteered to plant flowers, weed tree wells,
and paint and decorate bathrooms!

- Lorraine Abner and Latona Elementary for their A
Legacy of Peace exhibit which took place the
week of April 16th. The exhibit chronicles the
lives of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr.
and Daisaku Ikeda, three men who have helped
improve the lives of others. The students focused
on the concepts of courage, peace and kindness.

- Maria Torres Flores and Teacher Sherrie Salgado
from Bravo Magnet for the outstanding Math
Carnival held on April 19th. Thirty math booths
were set up and these challenged students from
the math classes with various games like
Pythagorean Magic, Around the Circumference in 80
Seconds, etc.

- Cecilia Quemada and the Global and Performing
Arts Small Learning Communities from Roosevelt HS
for their successful Community Arts Festival held
on April 21st. The event showcased student art
work and film projects. Approximately 450 guests
were treated to musical and dance performances by
the students from Roosevelt High School as well
as from Belvedere and Stevenson Middle Schools.
