  • 1. Major Depressive Disorder (common cold of
    psychology)
  • for no apparent reason, two or more weeks of
    depressed moods, feelings of worthlessness,
    hopelessness, diminished interest or pleasure in
    most activities (anhedonia),
  • loss of appetite
  • sleep disturbances
  • psychomotor agitation

  1. Dysthymic disorder - depression that exists for
    at least 2 yrs., less severe symptoms (mild) but
    more enduring (persistent)
  2. Affective mood disorder - depression cause by
    lack of light (deep winter months)

    elevated, inflated self-esteem, sleeplessness,
