27
Go to the front of the room near the teacher
table. Sit in the floor.
28
No Talking
29
If there is ever a time that a lockdown is called
and you are not in the classroom. Then hide in
the bathroom. You will not be let into any
classroom.
30
What should you do if you were to catch one of
your sleeves on fire?
31
Stop, Drop, and Roll. Partner inform the
teacher. Wrap fire blanket around person on fire.
32
What are the important safety steps when using a
centrifuge?
33
Do not stick your finger into it. Make sure the
test tubes are balanced.
34
At any time, if something is broken, get the
teacher. I will clean it up so that you will not
get hurt.
35
Lets say that you are boiling some water. You
are using a Bunsen Burner to boil the water. The
beaker breaks and water pours out putting out the
fire. What should you do first?
36
Turn off the gas.
37
If when performing an experiment, some solution
goes into your eye. What first aid technique
should you do?
38
Use the eye wash
39
What should you ever do if you should spill some
solution?
40
Get the teacher. I will clean it up so that you
will not get hurt.
41
You are using a funnel. You are pouring
something into it. The liquid is not going down.
What should you do first?
42
Lift up the funnel. There may be an air lock.
This prevents the air from escape, so the liquid
cannot go into the bottle.
43
What is the most important safety technique when
using a scalpel?
44
Cut away from yourself and others
45
Make sure to clean and dry your area before you
leave the lab. Make sure to clean and dry up
your equipment before you leave the lab. Make
sure you put everything away before you leave the
lab.
46
Do not wear baggy cloths. You do not want the
cloths to hang down so they knock over equipment.
You also do not want your cloths to get into
chemicals and soak them up.
47
Do not wear really nice cloths. You may get
something on your cloths that might ruin them.
So wear cloths you do not mind spilling something
on them.
48
If you have long hair, be careful. When you
turn, you may knock equipment over. You may also
get some of your hair into some chemicals. You
need to put your hair up before lab.
49
Wear Safety Goggles
50
Be well behaved while in the lab. Do not run
around the lab.
  • Do not get on top of the lab table. Do not throw
    anything.

51
Why do you have to be careful with a Mercury
Thermometer?
52
Mercury is a toxic liquid which easily soaks into
your skin. If too much gets into your system,
then it can cause nerve damage or brain damage.
53
Be very careful with the sinks in the lab. If
you turn the water on too quickly, then water
will go all over the place. So turn the water on
slowly.
54
When washing your hands, it is best to use the
wash room. It is the room in the back of the lab
on the left side. Do not use the sink behind the
door. Use the custodian's sink.
55
When mixing chemicals that produce a toxic fume,
where should you mix these chemicals?
56
Chemical Hood
57
The main lab contains optic shades. The shades
should remain closed at all times. Only the
teacher should open them.
58
The stools in the lab are old, so that squeak
when you turn in them. Do not turn in them.
59
The lab table are also very old. Do not open the
drawers or cabinets. You have no purpose in them.
60
Do not go behind the teacher table. It is off
limits. You have no purpose back there.
61
Make sure you are quiet when I am talking. The
teacher may tell you a safety warning. You might
miss it if you are talking. Also, you might be
informed of something you need to do first.
62
Do not eat or drink in the lab. You do not know
if some chemical came
  • in contact with the food or liquid. So do not
    take a chance.

63
Do not goof off in an outdoor lab. Do not run,
throw rocks, or throw water. Behave yourself
very well.
64
When showers are available in lab, they are to be
used in case a
  • lot of strong acid or strong base is spilled on
    you. The water dilutes it.

66
Red indicates how easy it catches on fire. 4
means easily catch on fire while 0 means no
problem.
67
Yellow indicates how reactive the substance is.
A lot of times water is something it is reactive
with. Some chemical react with air. Also 0-4
rating.
68
Blue indicate health hazard. 4 means very bad
for your health.
69
White represents a special hazard. This area
will have writing. Could be for oxidizers, acids,
bases, or corrosive materials.
70
When using pipets, do not use your mouth to suck
up the liquid. Use a bulb.
71
Do not add water to acid when mixing. There
could be a reaction.
  • Always add acid to water. That way the acid is
    diluted.

72
Always read the lab instructions carefully before
you start.
  • You might miss something if you do not read first.

73
When using hoses for what ever reason, make sure
they are connected well.
74
Make sure to label all storage containers when
performing an experiment. Never use a bottle
that is not labeled.
75
If you are not sure what a substance is, do not
smell it to find out. You may burn off your
olfactory senses.
76
If you have any questions at any time, then ask
the teacher. Do not continue if you are not sure
what to do.
77
I take lab safety very serious. Act right and do
what you are supposed to do. Other wise you may
lose you lab privilege.
