Title: anxiety

1
anxiety
  • A scriptural solution to What Will
    I Do If..?

2
Fear prompts defensive or evasive action in the
face of visible danger. But anxiety usually
arises through a perception of a non-existent
threat.
Anxieties are hypothetical questions
about possible future lacks or losses in life.
?
3
  • What If? speculations are rarely positive
    they are almost always negative!
  • Have you ever thought to yourself,
What if I were to succeed in everything ?
What if life never got me down?
What if my income continually increases?
  • Superstitious Christians worry that
Satan might hear them, so they
    keep their mouths shut!

4
  • What if the economy got of control?
  • What if the price of petrol doubled?
  • What if I couldnt provide for my family?
  • What if my health suddenly failed?
  • What if terrorists struck in my town?
  • What if the pathology report showed
    I had an incurable disease?
  • But what if God suddenly and unexpectedly
    blessed you?

5
  • JOBS SECRET FEAR
  • Jobs first words reveal his anxiety (15)
Were his blessings just too good to
    last?
  • When Satan struck, he confessed
    I feared a fear and
    it came upon me! (325)
  • Job saw Gods blessing as a possible problem
to his children. His answer was a continuous
cycle of anxious, protective prayer (Job
    326)
  • Is your prayer life based on faith in Gods care
for you, or your fear that things are too good to
    last?

6
Anxiety and faith dont belong in the same bed
much less in the same head!
  • Anxieties are worst-case scenarios
    that turn dreams into nightmares!
  • Job said nothing wrong but his three friends did.
Their words were not relevant to Jobs
situation. He needed comfort, not sermons blaming
him for the situation Satan had put him in
(with Gods permission). Job refused to accept
their insistence that he must have sinned.
  • The answer to anxierty is Philippians 46

7
Some settle for four words
  • Be anxious for nothing
  • (OK, but read on)
  • but (46b)
  • The first part of the verse points out the
problem the second part prescribes the cure

8
  • in every thing
  • (every situation, condition and
    circumstance)
  • by prayer and petitions (general and
    specific)
  • with thanksgiving
    (often the missing ingredient)
  • let your requests be made known to God
    (express
    what you want in words)

9
  • And (the result is)
  • the peace of God, which passes all
    understanding (Peace Bypass avoids
    jammed Intellect Junction)
  • shall guard your hearts and minds (as sentry
    over both)
  • through Christ Jesus (Guarantor of
    the promise)

10
  • The answer to every problem is the
    opposite thing.
  • The opposite to anxious is relieved. Other
    opposites are assured, calm, confident,
    composed, cool, serene, unperturbed, unruffled.
  • Pray Philippians 46-7 and then choose the
    word that best fits your
    new frame of mind.
