Simple Tenses
  • Past I walked downtown yesterday.
  • Present I walk downtown all the time.
  • Future I will (shall) walk downtown tomorrow
    evening.

Perfect TensesAll use the Past Participle part
of the verb.
  • Past Perfect I had walked downtown yesterday.
  • Present Perfect I have walked across downtown,
    and I need to sit.
  • Future Perfect I will (shall) have walked
    downtown before dark.

Progressive Form of the Perfect Tense All use
the Present Participle part of the verb.
  • Past Perfect Progressive I had been walking
    downtown all day when I met her.
  • Present Perfect Progressive I have been walking
    downtown all morning and I will continue to walk.
  • Future Perfect Progressive I will (shall) have
    been walking downtown all morning when I meet her
    tomorrow.
