2001 a new phase of the accession negotiations
- Objective successful closing of theTransport
Policy Chapter this autumn - The 7 temporary exemptions result from
awide-range social and economic agreement with
the representatives of several sub-sectors

Temporary exemptions (Transport I)
1. opening of the domestic road freight transport
market (following the practice of the EU
between 1994 and 1998, along with the
introduction of a gradually increasing permit
contingent) 2. vehicle taxation (for
environment-friendly (Euro 2 and 3) trucks
exceeding a gross weight of 25 tons applying
a lower minimum (65) tax level than
stipulated by Community legislation) 3. axle
load (to maintain the excess weight charge on
trucks with an axle load exceeding 10 tons)

the implementation of the MÁVs reform, 20

- We have successfully accomplished our legal
harmonisation program relating to year 2000,
and 2001 proportionately - We have carefully watched the preparation of the
new transport policy of the EU - This spring we started the revision of the
Hungarian transport policy adopted in 1996 - Our transport policy and water management
concept will be presented to the Government in
a few weeks
