The Holocaust Begins

• For many generations, many Germans had targeted
  the Jews as cause of there failures. Some
  Germans even blamed Jews for there countrys
  defeat in World War I and for its economic
  problems after that war

• A mass slaughter of Jews and other Civilians,
  Carried out by the Nazi government of Germany
  before and during World War II.

Kristallnacht

• night of a Broken Glass-the night of November
  9, 1983 on which Nazi storm troopers attacked
  Jewish homes business and synagogues throughout
  Germany
• Germans pass by the broken shop window of a
  Jewish-owned business that was destroyed during
  Kristallnacht in Berlin, Germany. The "night of
  broken glass" was a planned series of acts of
  violence against Jews throughout Germany.

A Flood of Refuges

• After Kristallnacht some Jews realized that
  violence against the was bound to increase. By
  the end of 1939, a lot of Jews from Germany fled
  to other countries. Hitler later conquered
  territories were millions of Jews lived. France,
  Britain, and the United States closed their doors
  to immigration after letting tens of thousands of
  Jews come there.

Isolating The Jews

• He soon found out that he could not get rid of
  Jews in other countries so he came up with a
  plan. Hitler ordered Jews in all countries under
  his control to be moved into the ghettos. These
  ghettos were sealed off with barbed wire and
  stone walls. Some Jews formed resistance
  organizations inside of the ghettos. Inside the
  ghettos they formed secret schools, kept records
  so one day people could find out the truth.

The Killings Begin

• As Nazi troops swept across Eastern Europe and
  the Soviet Union, the killings began. Units from
  the SS went from place to place to find Jews. The
  Jews were put into isolation camps and were
  killed but until then were prisoners.

The Final Stage

• The Nazis built extermination camps equipped with
  huge gas chambers that could kill as any as 6,000
  people in a day. When prisoners arrived at these
  camps they paraded in front of SS doctors. Where
  they were separated into groups from the strong
  (mostly men) to the weak (mostly children and
  women). There they were lead into chambers with
  fake shower heads that poured cyanide gas that
  would kill them in a few minutes.

Jewish Resistance

• Jews rose up and fought against the Nazis even in
  extermination camps. At Sobibor in October 1943
  and at Treblinka in August 1943 groups of Jews
  got together and killed the guards. In both of
  these attacks about 300 prisoners escaped, but
  most were still killed soon after.

The Survivors

• About 6 million Jews were killed in isolation
  camps and in the Nazi massacres. Only about 4
  million people survived. Risking their own life's
  non-Jewish people helped hid Jews in their homes.
  Those who survived from the camps had their
  lifes changed forever!
