Definition
  • Pronouns take the place of nouns to name persons,
    places, things, or ideas.
  • They can be used in different ways personal,
    indefinite, interrogative, and demonstrative.
  • They have a subcategory called possessive.

Personal Pronouns
  • I, me, you, he, him, she, her, it, we, us, they,
    them

Possessive Pronouns
  • My, mine, your, yours, his, her, hers, its, our,
    ours, their, theirs
  • There are no apostrophes used with possessive
    pronouns.
  • Its is never possessive. Its stands for the
    contradiction that represents It is.

Indefinite Pronouns
  • Indefinite pronouns can be singular, plural, or
    both.
  • Singular pronouns Anybody, anyone, another,
    anything, each, either, everyone, everything,
    neither, nobody, no one, one, somebody, someone.
  • Singular pronouns are used with singular
    possessive pronouns his, her, and its.
  • Ex Neither student can complete his or her work
    at home.

  • Plural indefinite pronouns both, many, few,
    several
  • Plural indefinite pronouns are used with the
    plural possessive their.
  • Ex Many students voiced their concern over the
    amount of homework assigned.

  • Who, whom, what, which, whose

Demonstrative Pronouns
  • This, that, these, those
  • This and these point to people or things that are
    near in space or time.
  • That or those point to people or things that are
    farther away in space or time.
