Plant Science Unit 2
Lesson 2 Plant Cells
2
Cell MembranePSS.1.PP
  • Selectively permeable- A plant cell allows
certain things to come through the cell membrane
i.e. water, while blocking other things from
    entering.

3
The Cell membrane PSS.HO.1
4
  • PSS.HO.2
  • Are located on both the interior surface and the
exterior surface of the cell membrane, they are
linked to lipids or other proteins.
  • Extend through the cell membrane exposing it both
to the outside and inside of the membrane. This
allows the integral proteins to act as transport
    channels.
  • Used to describe the cell membrane.
  • Has a polar and nonpolar end. The polar end
likes water and the nonpolar end hates water.

5
  • PSS.PP.1
  • Peripheral proteins-
  • are located on both the interior surface and the
exterior surface of the cell membrane, they are
linked to lipids or other proteins.
  • Integral proteins-
  • extend through the cell membrane exposing it
both to the outside and inside of the membrane.
This allows the integral proteins to act as
    transport channels.
  • Fluid mosaic model-
  • Used to describe the cell membrane.
  • Phospholipids-
  • has a polar and nonpolar end. The polar end
likes water and the nonpolar end hates water.

6
Cell OrganellesPSS.PP.2
  • Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to
    be understood.Marie Curie

7
PSS.1.BC Name _________________ Label the
organelles of the cell below.
8
Major Organelles of the Plant Cell
PSS.4.HO
  • Cell Wall
  • Cell Membrane
  • Chloroplasts
  • Endoplasmic Reticulum
  • Mitochondria
  • Nucleus
  • Nuclear Membrane
  • Vacuole
  • Cytoplasm

9
PSS.5.HO
  • Contains the DNA and manages most of the
    functions of the plant
  • Cell membrane is selectively permeable in order
to allow nutrients and other material in.
  • Stores enzymes and waste products
  • Contain chlorophyll and is the location where
    photosynthesis occurs.
  • Transfers energy from organic compounds to ATP
  • Surrounds the nucleus
  • The region of the cell between the cell membrane
    and the nucleus
  • Supports and protects the cell
  • Where proteins are created from the DNA

10
PSS.2.PP
  • Battle of the Wits

11
Question 1
  • Surrounds the nucleus

12
Question 2
  • Extend through the cell membrane exposing it both
to the outside and inside of the membrane. This
allows the integral proteins to act as transport
    channels.

13
Question 3
  • Contains the DNA and manages most of the
    functions of the plant

14
Question 4
  • Has a polar and nonpolar end. The polar end
likes water and the nonpolar end hates water.

15
Question 5
  • Are located on both the interior surface and the
exterior surface of the cell membrane, they are
linked to lipids or other proteins.

16
Question 6
  • Transfers energy from organic compounds to ATP

17
Question 7
  • The region of the cell between the cell membrane
    and the nucleus

18
Question 8
  • Cell membrane is selectively permeable in order
to allow nutrients and other material in.

19
Question 9
  • Supports and protects the cell

20
Question 10
  • Where proteins are created from the DNA

21
Question 11
  • Stores enzymes and waste products

22
Question 12
  • Contain chlorophyll and is the location where
    photosynthesis occurs.

23
Question 13
