G1 Phase

G0 Phase

• When cells do not divide
• They stay in this phase permanently
• Spur off of the G1 phase
• Examples of cells like this
• Red blood cells
• Human nerve cells
• Plant roots stems

S Phase

• S stands for synthesis
• DNA replicates
• Normally lasts around 3-6 hours in a typical
  human cell

G2 Phase

• Growth again
• Synthesis of more proteins, RNA and other
  macromolecules
• It spends less time than G1 here
• 2-5 hours

M Phase

• Mitosis
• Simple cell division
• Chromosomes become visible with a microscope
• RESULTS
• 2 identical offspring cells
