  • Two-Dimensional Figures

Vocabulary
  • In geometry, flat figures such as squares or
    rectangles are two-dimensional figures.
  • A polygon is a simple, closed, two-dimensional
figure formed by three or more sides.
  • When all of the sides of a polygon are congruent
and all of the angles are congruent, the polygon
    is a regular polygon.

Identify the Polygon
  • Identify the polygon. Then state if it is a
    regular polygon.

The polygon has 5 sides. So, it is a pentagon.
Since the sides and angles are congruent, it is a
regular polygon.

Analyze Two-Dimensional Figures
  • Many aircraft display the American flag in the
shape of a parallelogram to show motion. Identify
and describe the similarities and the differences
between a rectangle and a parallelogram.

These shapes are alike because they both have four sides, opposite sides parallel, and opposite sides congruent. They are different because a rectangle has four right angles and a parallelogram does not necessarily have four right angles.
