• Near Manassas, Virginia.
• It was the first major land battle of the
  American Civil War.

The Original Plan

• Under pressure to end the war quickly the Union
  Army moves to capture Richmond, Virginia.
  (Capital of the Confederacy)
• General Irvin McDowell, leader of the Union
  forces, leads forces against the Confederates at
  a crossroads called Bull Run near the city of
  Manassas, Virginia.

• General P.G.T. Beauregard, leader of the
  Confederate forces blocks the Union advance.
• Colonel Jackson earns the nickname stonewall
  for holding the line against superior forces.
