  • Revelation 146 And I saw another angel fly in
the midst of heaven, having the everlasting
gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the
earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and
    tongue, and people,
  • 147 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and
give glory to him for the hour of his judgment
is come and WORSHIP him that made heaven, and
earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
  • 149 And the third angel followed them, saying
with a loud voice, If any man WORSHIP THE BEAST
and his image, and receive his mark in his
    forehead, or in his hand,
  • 1410 The same shall drink of the wine of the
    wrath of God,

MOUNT SINAI EXPERIENCE
  • Exodus 193 And Moses went up unto God, and the
LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying,
Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and
    tell the children of Israel
  • 194 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians,
and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and
    brought you unto myself.
  • 195 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice
indeed, and KEEP MY COVENANT, then ye shall be a
peculiar treasure unto me above all people for
    all the earth is mine
  • 196 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of
priests, and an holy nation. These are the
words which thou shalt speak unto the children of
    Israel.

7
  • Exodus 197 And Moses came and called for the
elders of the people, and laid before their faces
all these words which the LORD commanded him.
  • 198 And all the people answered together, and
said, ALL THAT THE LORD HATH SPOKEN WE WILL DO.
And Moses returned the words of the people unto
    the LORD.

8
  • Jeremiah 3132 Not according to THE COVENANT that
I made with their fathers in the day that I
took them by the hand to bring them out of the
land of Egypt which my covenant they brake,
although I was AN HUSBAND UNTO THEM, saith the
    LORD
  • THE COVENANT LIKENED TO MARRIAGE

9
THE TERMS OF THE COVENANT
  • Exodus 201 And God SPAKE ALL THESE WORDS,
    saying,
  • 202 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought
thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house
    of bondage.

10
THE MARRIAGE NOT BED OF ROSES
  • Exodus 321 And when the people saw that MOSES
DELAYED to come down out of the mount, the people
gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said
unto him, Up, make us gods el-o-heem, which
shall go before us for as for this Moses, THE
MAN THAT BROUGHT US UP OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT,
we wot not what is become of him.

11
Who caused these problems?
  • The MIXED MULTITUDE that came up with the
Israelites from Egypt were a source of continual
temptation and trouble. They professed to have
renounced idolatry and to worship the true God
but their early education and training had molded
their habits and character, and they were more or
less corrupted with idolatry and with irreverence
for God. They were oftenest the ones to stir up
strife and were the first to complain, and they
leavened the camp with their idolatrous practices
and their murmurings against God. PP 408.3

12
  • Exodus 322 And Aaron said unto them, Break off
the golden earrings, which are in the ears of
your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters,
    and bring them unto me.
  • 323 And all the people brake off the golden
earrings which were in their ears, and brought
    them unto Aaron.
  • 324 And he received them at their hand, and
fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had
made it a molten calf and they said, These be
THY GODS, O Israel, which brought thee up out of
    the land of Egypt.

13
  • They might, at this time, have been learning
precious lessons, which the Lord was ready to
give them, if they had trusted fully in him. But
the result of their murmurings and unbelief was
that Aaron made them A GOLDEN CALF TO REPRESENT
GOD. He proclaimed this idol to be God, and a
great deal of enthusiasm was created over this
false god. RH, September 6, 1906 par. 13

14
Renewed worship service
  • Exodus 325 And when Aaron saw it, he built AN
ALTAR BEFORE IT and Aaron made proclamation, and
said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD.
  • 326 And they rose up early on the morrow, and
offered burnt offerings, and brought peace
offerings and the people sat down to eat and to
drink, and rose up to play.

15
Whose people are they?
  • Exodus 327 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get
thee down for thy people, which thou broughtest
out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted
    themselves
  • 328 They have TURNED ASIDE QUICKLY OUT of the
way which I commanded them they have made them a
molten calf, and HAVE WORSHIPPED IT, and have
sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy
gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of
    the land of Egypt.

16
Terms of the covenant broken
  • Exodus 3219 And it came to pass, as soon as he
came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf,
and the dancing and Moses' anger waxed hot, and
he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake
    them beneath the mount.

17
  • God had signified that He disowned His people. He
had spoken of them to Moses as "thy people, which
thou broughtest out of Egypt. PP 318.4
  • To show his abhorrence of their crime, he threw
down the tables of stone, and they were broken in
the sight of all the people, thus signifying that
as they had broken their covenant with God, so
God had broken His covenant with them. PP
    320.1

18
Moses pleads with God
  • Exodus 3211 And Moses besought the LORD his God,
and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot
against THY PEOPLE, which thou hast brought forth
out of the land of Egypt with great power, and
    with a mighty hand?
  • 3212 Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and
say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay
them in the mountains, and to consume them from
the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce
wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.

19
GOLDEN CALF WORSHIP
  • Exodus 3217 And when Joshua heard the noise of
the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses,
There is a noise of war in the camp.
  • 3218 And he said, It is not the voice of
them that shout for mastery, neither is it
the voice of them that cry for being overcome
but the noise of them that SING do I hear.
  • 3219 And it came to pass, as soon as he came
nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, AND THE
DANCING and Moses' anger waxed hot,

20
  • As they drew near the encampment, they beheld the
people shouting and dancing around their idol. It
was a scene of heathen riot, an imitation of the
idolatrous feasts of Egypt but HOW UNLIKE THE
SOLEMN AND REVERENT WORSHIP OF GOD! Moses was
overwhelmed. He had just come from the presence
of God's glory, and though he had been warned of
what was taking place, he was unprepared for that
dreadful exhibition of the degradation of Israel.
    PP 320.1

21
The people Rose up to Dance
22
The Central theme of Revelation is Worship Not
WHO but WHEN and HOWwho is to blame?
23
  • Exodus 3221 And Moses said unto Aaron, What did
this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so
    great a sin upon them?
  • 3222 And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my
lord wax hot thou knowest the people, that they
    are set on mischief.
  • 3223 For they said unto me, Make us gods, which
shall go before us for as for this Moses, the
man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt,
we wot not what is become of him.
  • 3224 And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any
gold, let them break it off. So they gave it
me then I cast it into the fire, and there came
    out this calf.

24
  • The fellow laborer of Moses, who was left with
the solemn charge of the people in his absence,
heard them uttering complaints that Moses had
left them, and expressing a desire to return to
Egypt yet, THROUGH FEAR OF OFFENDING THE PEOPLE,
he was silent. He did not stand up boldly for
God, but to please the people he made a golden
calf. He seemed to be asleep to the beginning of
the evil. When the first rebellious word was
spoken, Aaron might have checked it but so
fearful was he of offending the people that he
apparently united with them and was finally
persuaded to make a golden calf for them to
    worship. 4T 514.2

25
  • Such a crisis demanded a man of firmness,
decision, and unflinching courage one who held
the honor of God above popular favor, personal
safety, or life itself. But the present leader of
Israel was not of this character. Aaron feebly
remonstrated with the people, but his wavering
and timidity at the critical moment only rendered
them the more determined. The tumult increased. A
blind, unreasoning frenzy seemed to take
possession of the multitude AARON FEARED FOR HIS
OWN SAFETY and instead of nobly standing up for
the honor of God, he yielded to the demands of
    the multitude. . PP 316, 317

26
A faithful Remnant
  • There were some who remained true to their
covenant with God, but the greater part of the
people joined in the apostasy. A few who ventured
to denounce the proposed image making as
idolatry, were set upon and roughly treated, and
in the confusion and excitement they finally lost
    their lives. PP 316, 317

27
Critical or sympathetic?
  • Exodus 3231 And Moses returned unto the LORD,
and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great
sin, and have made them gods of gold.
  • 3232 Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--
and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book
    which thou hast written.

28
  • In the example of Moses pleading for the
children of Israel, is represented the position
that we should take in regard to the people of
God, however erring, or weak, or defective they
may be. RH, October 3, 1893 par. 13

29
Israel Repented
  • Exodus 331 And the LORD said unto Moses, Depart,
and go up hence, thou and the people which thou
hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto
the land which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac,
and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give
    it
  • 332 And I will send an angel before thee and I
will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and
the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and
    the Jebusite
  • 333 Unto a land flowing with milk and honey
for I will not go up in the midst of thee for
thou art a stiffnecked people lest I consume
    thee in the way.

30
  • Exodus 334 And when the people heard these evil
tidings, they mourned and no man did put on him
    his ornaments.
  • 335 For the LORD had said unto Moses, Say unto
the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked
people I will come up into the midst of thee in
a moment, and consume thee therefore now put off
thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to
    do unto thee.
  • 336 And the children of Israel stripped
themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb.

31
  • The things you have described as taking place in
Indiana, the Lord has shown me would take place
just before the close of probation. Every uncouth
thing will be demonstrated. There will be
shouting, with drums, music, and dancing. The
senses of rational beings will become so confused
that they cannot be trusted to make right
decisions. And this is called the moving of the
    Holy Spirit. 2SM 36.2

32
  • Revelation 146 And I saw another angel fly in
the midst of heaven, having the everlasting
gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the
earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and
    tongue, and people,
  • 147 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and
give glory to him for the hour of his judgment
is come and worship him that made heaven, and
earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

33
  • A revival and a reformation MUST TAKE PLACE
under the ministration of the Holy Spirit.
Revival and reformation are two different things.
Revival signifies a renewal of spiritual life, a
quickening of the powers of mind and heart, a
    resurrection from the spiritual death.
Reformation signifies a reorganization, a change
in ideas and theories, habits and practices.

34
  • Reformation will not bring forth the good fruit
of righteousness unless it is connected with the
revival of the Spirit. Revival and reformation
are to do their appointed work, and in doing this
work they must blend.-- Review and Herald, Feb.
    25, 1902.
