  1. Emergency Banking Relief Act (EBRA)- authorized
    the Treasury Department to inspect and close
    banks to restore public confidence in banks
  2. Glass-Steagall Banking Act of 1933- Established
    the FDIC to restore public confidence in banks.
    Insured money in banks.
  3. Federal Securities Act- required corporations to
    provide complete information on all stock
    offerings to restore public confidence in the
    stock market
  4. National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA)- to set
    prices and establish labor standards to ensure
    fair business practices and to promote industrial
    growth

Farm Relief/Rural Development
  • Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA)- Paid farmers
    to lower production which would raise crop prices
    (and thus, raise farm income)
  • Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)- Built and
    repaired dams and other projects in the Tennessee
    Valley to create prosperity in the impoverished
    Tennessee valley Region.

Employment Projects
  • Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)- Put young men
    (18-25) to work on road-building and conservation
    projects, such planting trees flood control.
  • Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA)-
    500 million dollars given to provided direct
    relief for the needy. Provided basic needs for
    people hit hardest by the Depression

  • Public Works Administration (PWA)- Provided money
    to states to create jobs To reduce unemployment.
    Built 40,000 schools.
  • Civil Works Administration (CWA)- Provided 4
    million immediate jobs to reduce unemployment

Coos Bay Bridge (Conde B. McCullough Memorial
Bridge), North Bend, Oregon. At 5,305 feet in
length, the Coos Bay Bridge is the longest of the
five Public Works Administration bridges built
along the Oregon Coastal Highway during the Great
Depression

    foreclosure to help families keep their homes.
