Early Life

• Born September 30, 1928, in Sighet, Transylvania
• grew up with three sisters
• He did religious studies
• Was Influenced with spiritual beliefs by
  grandmother and mother

During the Holocaust

• A Holocaust Survivor, and Writer
• At Age 15 him and family were sent to Auschwitz
  as part of the Holocaust
• Wiesel lived in the camps under poor conditions
• In 1945 him his 2 sisters were freed from
  Buchenwald

Life After Holocaust

• Studied journalism in Sorbonne, France from
  1948-51
• 1956 he wrote And the World Would Remain Silent
  
• He wrote many other books later on like Town of
  Luck (1962), The Gates of the Forest (1966) and
  The Oath (1973)
• Appointed chair of the President's Commission by
  Jimmy Carter in 1978
• Boston University Professor
