Chlamydia--the silent killer of dreams
  • 4 Million cases every year
  • 30 - 40 of sexually active teens have Chlamydia
  • Females contract more than half of these cases
  • Newborns may develop serious eye, ear, and lung
    infections

Symptoms
  • Asymptomatic
  • 3/4 of women and 1/4 of men have no symptoms
  • Symptoms are usually noticed 1 - 3 weeks after

Females
  • Whitish vaginal discharge
  • Burning when urinating

Males
  • Discharge from Penis
  • Burning sensation and itching
  • Painful urination

  • Take a culture of cells from the cervix or penis

Complications
  • Woman can also develop PID and NGU. Both can
    seriously damage the reproduction system.
  • Can also cause Ectopic Pregnancy
  • Sterility in both men and women

  • Can be cured since it is caused by a bacteria

  • Symptons--Passed via skin contact from a syphilis
    sore, called a chancre (painless sore)
  • Transmitted to either partner through vaginal,
    anal, or oral sex

    and sores under microscope
  • Blood test

sensation) and testicular pain WOMEN-bleeding
between periods, creamy or pus-like or bloody
vaginal discharge,excessive bleeding during
menstrual period, irritation of the vulva, lower
abdominal pain, painful intercourse, pain
urination(burning sensation), rectal infection,
throat infectionSymptoms usually appear 2-7
days after infection in males but it can
sometimes take up to 30 days for symptoms to
appear. Often there are no symptoms at all in
10-15 of men and 80 in women.

    or gray and has a foul odor
