• Read Ch. 5 for tomorrow

Informal Discussion Prep 10 min.

• On ONE side of your note card, write these
  things
• ONE What is going on here? clarification
  question
• TWO passages (best to use passages you wrote
  about in your journals) to share with group
  share passage, what rh. tech you noticed, and
  effect it has on reader. (Write p on card)
• THREE interesting things you noticed / discussion
  questions you want to ask your group.

Discuss!

• Clear up any confusion first. Ask me if you
  dont understand something.
• Talk passages. One from each person, then the
  second from each person.
• Discuss interesting things you noticed, or ask
  discussion questions.
• Bonus if you have time, find your absolute
  favorite sentence in this book so far. Which
  sentence is absolutely perfectwhich sentence
  just floors you with its beauty, cleverness,
  rhythm, imagery, etc.? Which sentence makes you
  wish you had written it yourself?
• Your goal be interesting. I should want to
  stick around and listen to your group instead of
  moving on to others.

• Whats up with the eyes on the billboard?
  Symbolic of what?
• Why a valley of ashes? Why not garbage, or
  gravel, or fields of flowers? How is this
  symbolic?
• How is the green light symbolic? Why is it
  green? Why not red, or blue?

• On the back of your note card, write
• Explain the most interesting thing you talked
  about during your discussion today.
• Explain one NEW thing you thought about
  (something you had not already thought about
  before the discussion today, and not the same
  thing you wrote for 1).
• What 5 adjectives would you use to describe your
  groups discussion today? Be vivid.
