Title: REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

1
REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM
  • 7th Grade Science
  • NJMS

2
FUNCTION
  • Reproduction is the process that continues life

3
Endocrine System
  • The human reproductive system needs hormones to
    function.
  • Hormones should be balanced within the body and
are controlled by many different Glands.

4
Pineal Gland
  • Produces a hormone that controls rhythms such as
sleep, body temperature, reproduction, and aging

5
Hypothalamus
  • The primary connection between the nervous and
    endocrine systems

6
Pituitary Gland
  • The director of the endocrine system. Secretes
hormones that control growth, sexual development,
and the absorption of water into the blood by the
    kidneys.

7
Thyroid
  • Releases hormones necessary for growth and
metabolism as well as regulation of calcium

8
Thymus
  • Helps the body to fight disease by controlling
the production of white blood cells called T
    cells.

9
Adrenal Gland
  • Secretes about 30 different hormones that
    regulate carbohydrate, protein, and fat
metabolism and water and salt levels. They also
help fight allergies and produce adrenaline.

10
Pancreas
  • Produces 2 hormones insulin and glucagon. They
regulate the glucose levels in your blood.

11
Hormone Imbalance
  • When hormones arent balanced it can sometimes
cause serious diseases such as diabetes mellitus,
    growth disorders, Osteoporosis, Thyroid
conditions. Most can be treated and regulated.

12
Male Reproductive
  • Sperm are produced in the testes and leave the
    male through the penis
  • Sperm are specialized cells known as gametes that
    carry genetic material.
  • Males begin producing sperm during adolescence.

13
Female Reproductive
  • Eggs are produced in the ovaries and, if
fertilized can develop in the uterus
  • If an egg is not fertilized, the lining of the
uterus breaks down and is shed in a process
    called menstruation
  • A females menstrual cycle occurs approximately
    every 28 days

14
Fertilization
  • An egg is released from the ovary
  • Fertilization occurs when the egg combines with a
    sperm in the fallopian tube
  • The fertilized egg begins to divide
  • It moves down the fallopian tube to the uterus
  • It implants in the lining of the uterus

15
Pregnancy
  • For humans pregnancy lasts about nine months
broken into three periods. The fetus grows and
develops until it is ready to be born.

16
Multiple Births
  • They are relatively uncommon in humans.
  • Identical twins are produced when a single
fertilized egg divides in half early in embryo
    development.
  • Fraternal twins are produced when two eggs are
released that same time and fertilized by two
different sperm. They can be different same or
    different sexes
  • 1 in 29 twin births are identical
