NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
  • iRead, iWrite, iMovie2 is a literacy, writing,
and technology project involving students in
    grades three through eight. This
    interdisciplinary project will provide rich
literary experiences which will become stories,
scripts and eventually, movies. This project
will offer you the opportunity to increase
reading and writing skills by creating,
    performing and producing authentic masterpieces.
By becoming producers in your own right, through
the use of technology, you will enhance your
critical thinking skills, and raise your reading
and writing scores, while having fun.

3

  • As part of a Comprehensive Reading Plan, your
teacher will select two pieces of literature from
    your reading assignments.
  • All students will write a summary about each
story using the writing process, and create a
    script for a movie.
  • The teacher and students will select one of the
    pieces to create an iMovie.
  • There will be collaborative groups of different
    Guilds, i.e., Directors, Producers,
    Choreographers, Cameramen, and Actors.
  • Students will be placed in the groups either by
teacher recommendation or student choice and will
meet using a center approach to discuss and make
decisions regarding their component of the movie.
  • Students will be trained in iMovie as well as
    receive training on Internet skills.
  • A teacher made rubric will be used by other
    students to evaluate each movie.

PURPOSE/GOALS OF PROJECT
  • The purpose of iRead, iWrite, iMovie2 is to
increase reading and writing skills. With
technology as its vehicle iRead, iWrite,
iMovie2 is an interdisciplinary project where
    students will work collaboratively using
project-based learning. Here they will learn to
work together as a team using decision making and
critical thinking skills. Students will be
engrossed in learning a variety of skills while
having fun creating, collaborating, and producing
authentic projects. When students are involved in
    hands-on self motivated activities, self-esteem
    is raised, consequently increasing student
achievement. When learning is meaningful it
becomes long lasting. Effective uses of new media
include the integration of the latest
technologies with the curriculum and replacing
sometimes outdated and boring textbooks. After
their movie is complete, it will be viewed by
their peers and judged by them using a rubric.
Parental involvement will increase by engaging
both student and parent in the collaboration
process of this project, specifically in the
reinforcement of reading at home, and computer
    generated homework assignments. Through the
commitment of teachers, students and parents,
    iRead, iWrite, iMovie2 will enthusiastically
embark students on a journey into the realm of
movie making consequently opening a whole new
world of experiences with the end result of
