Title: 1 Peter Class Schedule
11 Peter Class Schedule
26 Â For this is contained in Scripture Behold,
I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner
stone, and he who believes in him will not be
disappointed." 7 Â This precious value, then, is
for you who believe but for those who
disbelieve, The stone which the builders
rejected, this became the very corner stone," 8
and, A stone of stumbling and a rock of
offense" for they stumble because they are
disobedient to the word, and to this doom they
were also appointed. 9 Â But you are a chosen
race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people
for God's own possession, so that you may
proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called
you out of darkness into His marvelous light 10
for you once were not a people, but now you are
the people of god you had not received mercy,
but now you have received mercy.
3Believers have a common salvation
The purpose of our salvation 21-10 1. The
believers growth 21-3 2. The believers
sacrifice 24-8 3. The believers witness
29-10 Israel vs. Church Israel was a physical
race of people, the literal descendants of
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The church is a
spiritual race, the members of which share the
common characteristic of faith in Christ and are
both Jews and Gentiles racially. Christians are
the spiritual descendants of Abraham. We are not
Abraham's literal descendants, unless we are
ethnic Jews, but are his children in the sense
that we believe God's promises as he did.

Israel - contrast what is given Israel vs. the church
- a chosen race
- The word race (genos) refers to a group with a
common origin - What is the common origin of believers in the

- a royal priesthood
- royal - basileios - belonging to, appointed,
suitable for - the king from

- Every individual Christian is a priest before
God. We function as priests to the extent that we
worship, intercede, and minister see 1 Peter

Constable - Israel was to be a kingdom of priests
- Exodus 196a and you shall be to Me a kingdom of
priests and a holy nation.
69a  But you are a chosen race, a royal
priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own
possession
- a holy nation
- nation - is the translation of a Greek word
meaning a multitude of people of the same
nature. - all believers have the same nature which is
Christs nature and are holy (set apart to God) - God redeemed Israel --- adopted that nation at
Mt. Sinai as one that would be different from all
others throughout history (Exod.196).

79a  But you are a chosen race, a royal
priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own

- a people for God's own possession
- possession - the Greek word speaks of the unique,
private, personal ownership of the saints by God.
- In the Riches of Gods Grace we see many of the
possession aspects children of God, adopted,

make them His own unique possession by residing
among them (Exod. 195).

This verse is considered to be the great
commission to the church 1 Peter 29 is the
great commission. It is specifically addressed
to the entire body of believers. It sets forth

Him who has called you out of darkness into His

so that lit with a purpose that you may

abroad root is to proclaim (1
John15) the excellencies of Him - gracious
dealings, glorious attributes lit the
virtues of Him see 2 Peter 13 We are all to
proclaim the excellencies of Him. Excellencies
(areta) means one of noble character and noble
acts. A believer is to proclaim the noble
character of God and the noble acts of God. This
alone forms the great commission.

1210 Â for you once were not a people, but now you
are the people of god you had not received
mercy, but now you have received mercy.
first contrast in verse 10 for you once were not
a people, Lit who at one time were not a
people Eph 212 remember that you were at that
time separate from Christ, excluded from the
commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the
covenants of promise, having no hope and without
God in the world. also see 1 Peter 225 but
now you are the people of god (lit Gods
people) Eph 213 But now in Christ Jesus you who
formerly were far off have been brought near by
the blood of Christ. Also this was said to
Israel in Hosea 223
1310 Â for you once were not a people, but now you
are the people of god you had not received
mercy, but now you have received mercy.
second contrast in verse 10 you had not received
mercy, with the perfect tense you had not
received mercy in the past and continued not to
receive mercy into the present but now you have
received mercy with the aorist passive
expanded but at a point in time in the past God
acted to bestow mercy (based on our faith and His
grace)
