Purpose of a Degassing Valve
Imagine having an employee who continuously opens
a valve to release air or gas whenever it builds
up in a piping system.
3
But a Degassing Valve Won't Get a Sore Wrist
and it doesnt take a lunch break. It also
closes as soon as the air or gas is expelled.
4
Uses for a Degassing Valve
  1. Systems with Sodium Hypochlorite, Hydrochloric
Acid, Waterany liquid prone to outgassing.
  2. Ozone and other gas generating processes.
  3. Virtually any piping system in which air enters
    via pumps and fittings.

5
How it Works
The Plast-O-Matic Series DGV Degassing Valve
connects to a 1/2" tee on high points in the
piping system. It is normally-open air flows
in and out freely prior to system start-up,
pressurization liquid flow.
6
As liquid flows into the valve, Air is forced
through the orifice and expelled through a 1/8
outlet. A natural polypropylene float rises
with the liquid, and begins to pivot an arm. A
seal on the arm then begins to close against the
orifice.
ARM
FLOAT
7
Once liquid rises and has forced most of the air
out of the valve, The float rises completely,
which completes the pivoting of the arm. The
seal on the end of the arm is now fully sealed
against the orifice, and the valve is closed.
8
But while the system is operating, it may be
outgassing, drawing air, or both. The resulting
gas will generally be forced to the highest
points in the piping systemright where the
Degassing Valve has been installed. Gas will
now begin to accumulate above the float
9
When enough air or gas accumulates in the valve
to displace the liquid, the float naturally
begins to drop with the liquid level the
Degassing Valve re-opens, and the accumulated gas
is once again expelled from the system
10
After the air or gas is expelled, the float
rises, lifting the arm and the valve is
re-sealed.
11
The key to the Series DGV Degassing Valve
is that the valve opens and closes over and over
and over, automatically expelling gas as it
accumulates!
12
Know the Difference between a DEGASSING VALVE
and an AIR RELEASE VALVE...
Series DGV emits trace amounts of gas as it
occurs.
To expel a massive volume of air, such as at
system start-up, Series ARV Air Release Valve
should be used.
13
It should be placed at the highest point or
points on the piping system. Series DGV must
be installed vertically. Small amounts of
liquid and/or vapors may be emitted from the top
vent. In applications where these may be
harmful, the vent should be piped to a scrubber
or other safe location.
Installing the Degassing Valve...
14
Advantages of Series DGV
  • No internal or external metal parts complete
    protection against corrosion and impurities!
  • Max operating pressure 100 psi.
  • PVC or CPVC body, natural polypropylene float.
  • EPDM or FKM (Viton) seals.

15
Advantages, continued
  • Piping convenience ½ NPT process connection,
    1/8 NPT vent connection.
  • Each valve is individually tested prior to
    shipment.
  • First continuous venting all-thermoplastic
    valve!
