  Timbuktu, Djenne and Gao
• most of Songhais traders Muslim it
  encouraged the growth of Islamic influence
• Askia set up 5 Provinces removed local leaders
  appointed new governors that he trusted
• 1 governor ruled during Askias pilgrimage to
  Mecca upon return, he brought more Islamic
  influence with him
• Askia also made special departments so that
  certain tasks completed they worked like
  modern government offices
• Created standing professional army (1st in West
  Africa)
