About the Battle
  • On April 14, 1836, the Texas army was
retreating east after a devastating loss at the
Battle of the Alamo. By the morning of April 14
the troops had made it all the way to the bank of
the Buffalo Bayou, which was within half a mile
of the battle sight. It was here that Houston
commanded his troops to settle down in the edge
of a forest and prepare for war. On the following
morning, Santa Anna and his troops marched into
the prairie before the Texas army. April 20 was
when the Texas army charged the Mexican army with
only 910 troops while the Mexican army had 12oo
troops. The Mexicans held them off but lost many
troops. That next day the Texans cut off the
Mexicans only escape rout, the Vinces Bridge.
This gave the Texans a boost in confidence. They
shot very closely to the Mexicans and killed more
than 700 soldiers. The rest of the troops were
captured as prisoners of war. In The end, the
    Texans defeated the Mexicans.

In the End
  • The battle of San Jacinto was considered the
greatest battle in the Texas revolution. Some
even say it is among one of the greatest battles
ever fought. Not only did it win Texas freedom
from Mexico, it won peace between the two. In
addition to gaining Texas, America also received
New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, Utah,
parts of Colorado, Kansas, Wyoming, and Oklahoma.
This states make up one third of present day
America. I hope you enjoyed and learned many
