  • We are currently studying the periods of the
    Divided Kingdom and Judah Alone
  • The house of Israel now in captivity because of
    their ungodliness for the last two hundred years.
  • Judah with a minority of righteous kings are
    following the same path as Israelinto captivity.

  • During this time of departure there was one king
    who respected God.
  • Young king Josiah respected God s word and is an
    example for all of us to do the same.
  • Notice Josiahs surrounding circumstances.
  • His attitude.
  • His reign.

Circumstances Against Josiah

  • He did more evil than the nations God destroyed
    before Israel! 2 Ki. 219

  • Followed in Manassehs ways.
  • Killed by his own servants after two years.

Circumstances Against Josiah
  • Josiah 8 yrs old when he became king!
  • His upbringing was surrounded by administrations
    who defiled Gods word.
  • He would be confronted by adults who could easily
    influence and/or intimidate him against Gods
    will.
  • He was surrounded by other nations (Assyria,
    Babylon, EgyptMoabites, Arameans, etc.).

APPLICATION FOR US TODAY
  • We might have all kinds of circumstances going
    against us.
  • We might have parents that live contrary to the
    Lord.
  • We might have people who strive to sway you like
    the Gentiles did against Israel and Judah.
  • We might be young not have years of experience
    to learn from.

Application For Us Today
  • When learning Gods word, however, we must have
    the kind of attitude and humility displayed by
    young Josiah. cp. Matt. 1323
  • We should grieve over the knowledge of being in
    sin and of Gods judgment. Acts 237

  • We must always seek the word of God further.

Conclusion
  • Josiahs circumstances did not subject him to
    reject God.
  • Like him, we must live before the Lord with a
    humbled and penitent heart
  • Seeking His will and good favor.
  • Respect His word.
