  • There are many beneficial alternatives to beef
    and dairy products for vegans.
  • As more people become aware of how much better
alternatives can be, the market has expanded to
    include more choices.
  • If you don't have any soy products or other
grains, it's not difficult to find vegan
    alternatives to some meat-based foods.
  • For instance, you can easily make pates, cookies,
and muffins from nuts and flaxseed.
  • These alternatives are just as tasty and often
tastier, than meats. You also won't feel guilty
    about eating them!

3
  • If you're looking for a good alternative to
    gravy, consider using coconut milk.
  • Coconut milk is thicker and richer than most
other juices, and contains little or no beef fat.
  • It will keep its shape and doesn't curdle when it
comes in contact with juice or food.
  • You can make delicious vegan gravy with a bit of
raw vegetable oil or coconut oil.
  • You can also use a bit of fresh herbs like basil,
oregano, parsley, or thyme to add a little zest
    to your gravy.

4
  • If you're not comfortable cooking with coconut
milk or other soy products, consider cooking your
    veggies instead.
  • Some common vegetables that don't contain Beef
Products are celery, squash, potatoes, and yams.
  • There's no need to completely eliminate meat if
you only bake or cook veggies once or twice a
    week.
  • Canned fruit juices can be replaced for juices by
using a lemon or lime and replacing with water
    instead of water.
  • If your potatoes or squash don't like to be
submerged in water, you can use a small amount of
vegetable cooking liquid (also available at
gourmet food stores) to blot the surface and add
    water as necessary.

5
  • When cooking an oatmeal scramble for instance,
add one tablespoon of the liquid and mix, not the
    milk.
  • Gelatine is often included in beef curds, but it
can also be found in products like milk cream,
whipped cream, ice cream, and sherbet.
  • This product is made from collagen, which is a
    fibrous protein.
  • If you were to check a nutrition facts panel,
you'd see that beef contains 30g of collagen
(which is equal to about 2 ounces), so it's safe
to assume that there's some amount of gelatin in
    most dairy products, too.
  • Unfortunately, it's also true that a large amount
of that protein (and its by-products) are derived
from cattle, not humans. So don't go eating
    gelatin!

6
  • If you shop at Trader Joe's, or any other major
nationwide chain, you'll find that most of their
frozen and dried vegetables and meats contain no
animal fats, even though the name might suggest
    otherwise.
  • Even if you're used to buying vegetarian foods,
you'll notice that there aren't a lot of options
in the regular grocery store for vegetarian
    cooking and baking.
  • But what about the alternative meat and dairy
    products?

7
  • What about the Alternatives at the Local Grocery
Store? Well, if you live in a city or town with a
very limited number of vegetarian options, it can
be hard to find non-animal-derived substitutes.
  • Some cities do, however, have organic or real
    farm grown produce options.
  • In these cases, the only way to get the same
product is to order it, which will probably run
    you quite a bit extra.
  • So, is there any way to prepare your non-dairy
products without paying more than you would for a
regular dairy product at your local supermarket?

8
  • Yes, there is! One great alternative to dairy and
    meat is soy.
  • While some (but not all) soy products are grown
on farms, most come from carpools in the United
    States and Europe.
  • Soy is a natural, vegetarian alternative to meat,
and it's grown in the United States under strict
    guidelines imposed by the government.
  • The final option is aquaculture, which involves
the raised of water-based fish for consumption as
    a food source.

9
  • While many (if not most) Americans eat Red meat
regularly, we do consume small amounts of seafood
    on occasion.
  • Fish is a versatile food that can go just about
anywhere it is both delicious and healthy.
  • It is particularly helpful to reduce your
consumption of fatty meat products, which is
especially important for those with heart
    disease, diabetes, and other cardiovascular
    diseases.
  • The seafood industry has already addressed many
of these concerns, so starting to substitute some
red meat (and other dairy and meat products) with
fish may help you lower your risk of
    cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other
    circulatory conditions.
